Financial Self Defense Program
Written by Steve Kanney, this short book is a mixture of martial arts (mostly Zen) teachings and financial management, all meant for the average person to understand. Kanney is both a Certified Financial Adviser (CFA) and a martial arts instructor (Aikido). He blends these two together to create a simple financial planning system that will help most middle class people (lower to upper) plan for their financial future in today’s climate.
Kanney begins by tossing out the most persistently incorrect myth in finances today: stocks and bonds should be your primary go-to investment. He dispels this by simply showing how uncertain they are and how many pension funds and other “safe” investments have failed in recent years. He then walks through step-by-step, general ways of countering that trend with better strategies for financial security.
The book gives both a broad, strategic overview for various financial and investment goals and pinpoint views for long-term goals that most people will want to achieve (retirement at 65, mortgage paid off, etc).
Overall, the book is valuable as a read and well worth the short amount of time it takes to go through it (it’s about 40 pages in print). Potty Covers
This is an extremely unique and thoughtful idea. If you have small children and get stuck in public and have to let your newly-pottytrained child used a public toilet.. you’ll appreciate this idea.
These are portable toilet seat covers made specifically for children. Rather than the flimsy paper covers adults use, which barely protect you from anything, these are disposable, but much more durable potty covers that cover most of the toilet where your child is likely to touch it.
A totally great idea!
The covers are in individually wrapped packages that can be easily opened, quickly used, and then thrown away. No more worries about germs in the public toilet and the designs are cute and make the toilet look a lot more pleasing.

Unique Bible Verse Certificate
This is a very cool, unique gift idea. Even those who are not religious can appreciate these as those verses chosen are often from Proverbs or similar, poetic sections of the Bible. For ours, I ordered one with our daughter’s names on them.
The certificate showcases the name(s) down the left side in large, stylized lettering. Each letter is the beginning of a line of verse from the Bible. The verses are arranged in such a way that the letters match up as the verse is written out. It makes for a very unique and inspiring display.
Behind the names and verses is a background watermark-type print to add to the beauty of the whole. I chose a light framework of pink flowers for this one, given that it’s for little girls, but several options are available from BibleVerse.org.
All in all, this is a great gift and a beautiful idea that many people can appreciate. If you’re looking for something unusual to give to a loved one, this is a good choice.
